The majority of the water used in the home goes to water that lush, green lawn. We're a very lawn-oriented nation full of lawn-love and lawn-lust. And in order to keep our lawns looking lovely, we need to water our grass when the rain doesn’t come.

A smart landowner knows better than to over-water. An over-watered lawn can lead to unwanted weed growth. In most climates, a lawn needs no more than one inch of rainfall to stay healthy. If you're watering smart, then you are watering better. People who water in the early mornings or the evenings are doing a benefit to their lawns. The water doesn’t evaporate as quickly and your yard can gulp down those precious water droplets.

Now there is a new way to water smart. Replace your old sprinkler nozzles with new rotary nozzles. They can water your lawn better while reducing the amount of water used by 20%.

From Be Water Wise:

These nozzles shoot multi-trajectory, rotating streams that apply water more slowly and uniformly than conventional sprays and rotors - especially when adjusted for specific site conditions.

In addition to reducing water use, the water jetting from these nozzles is more resistant to wind, less likely to mist, and significantly reduces run-off on to streets and sidewalk.

They are also quite inexpensive. Rainbird lists them at $5.25 per nozzle. In Southern California you might be eligible for a 4 dollar, per-nozzle rebate, making them all the more affordable. They’ll pay for themselves in a matter of no time.
