It's time to reclaim your mailbox-or mail slot, as the case may be. Global Stewards has a comprehensive 10-step plan of attack, from contacting the Direct Marketing Association to hiring companies such as 41 Pounds.

Often, you have to nip the loose-lipped sources in the bud: Your credit-card company, bank, and any other companies you purchase products or services from, especially magazines and online stores. We're mentally filing away this tip, in particular:

Whenever you donate money or order a product or service, write in large letters: "Please do not sell my name or address." Most organizations will properly mark your name in their computer.

As a last resort, dash off "refused" or "refused: return to sender" across the address, cross out the bar code, and drop the envelope in any mailbox. If it is First Class mail, says Global Stewards, it will be bounced back to the offending party. ::Global Stewards
