Pee Outside

Urinate outdoors, save water and fertilize cabbages.

I recently did an interview with Scott Badenoch of CreativeCitizen.com, and he raised the point that we urinate in what is essentially potable water. Drinkable water gets peed in for our leisure. A Creative Citizen user posted a suggestion that people should pee outside to conserve water. This sounds a little nutty and a little gross, but it is a viable way to help conserve water and help the grass.

The average toilet uses three gallons of water per flush. Newer toilets will use less. Older toilets will use more. Excluding the water used on the lawn, the toilet uses more water than anything else in the house. ( Over 25% ) The average human only has one bowel movement a day. That means that most of the toilet water goes towards flushing away urine waste. Every time you pee outside, you save about 3 gallons of water.

Now, don't expose yourself in public. That's not the point of this post. Personally, if I tried to pee outside, I'd probably get arrested. I live mid-city in an apartment building. This isn't the tip for me, but I will pee outside given the opportunity.

PeeOutside.org gives us these creative solutions for people who cannot pee outside on a regular basis:

From PeeOutside.org.

  • Pee in a cup/bottle and dispose of it outside.
  • Pee down a drain of your choice
  • Pee in the shower, only if you are doing something else at the same time.
  • Use the old "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down" method.
  • Or, just don't flush every pee.

Won’t Urine Hurt My Grass?
Urine is sterile and will not hurt grass. In fact, they are using urine as cabbage fertilizer in Finland. Cucumbers are also supposed to benefit from this type of fertilizer.

As long as the urinator is healthy, there are no negative side effects to eating these vegetables.
