In the past we’ve blogged a lot about mold prevention but as my experience this weekend reminded me—when mold takes hold, you need a solution. Fast.
Desperate to eco-sensitively remove the gunk building up on my shower curtain, and in my bathtub tile crevices and corners, I impatiently ran out and purchased a bottle of Seventh Generation Natural Tub & Tile Cleaner.
Then with scrubber brush, sponge and spray in tow, I waged war.
Though the non-toxic and biodegradable spritz worked wonders—and smelled great, too—I wish I had had these three DIY mold-fighting recipes handy, courtesy of Care2 from renowned green cleaning and healthy living expert, Annie Bond.
I could’ve saved some cash (since two of the ingredients already live in my kitchen cupboard) and spared the packaging waste—reusing one of my empty spray bottles.
Tea Tree Treasure
2 teaspoons of tea tree oil
2 cups of water
Shake the solution together in a spray bottle and spritz on moldy areas. Let it sit without rinsing.
Grapefruit Seed Extract
20 drops of grapefruit seed extract
2 cups of water
Like the Tea Tree Treasure, shake the solution together in a spray bottle and spritz on problem areas. Again, let it sit without rinsing to let it work its magic.
Vinegar Spray
Pour white distilled vinegar straight into a spray bottle without diluting with water. Spritz offending spots and let it sit without rinsing. It’ll smell strong but will dissipate in a few hours time—along with the mold!
