Over at Instructables, user Sun Moon Lake shows us how to patch together a cozy quilt from castoff sweaters. Cashmere is her fiber of choice, although she says that lambswool, silk, and alpaca work just as well.
A common laundry uh-oh, shrunken sweaters are the result of animal fibers matting together when heat and moisture are applied in the washing machine and dryer. The process, known as felting (or, more accurately, fulling), creates a dense, tightly woven fabric perfect for cuddling beneath. You can find discarded woollies at thrift stores such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
