A great new interactive game here on Planet Green called Green Your House teaches kids all about healthy, eco-friendly home materials. And it's just the introduction to a whole online world of adventure and interaction that gives kids hands-on experience with the effects of global warming.

Created by Circle1Network, the Green Your House game lets kids create their own room, changing out the wall colors, floor colors, furniture, accessories and so on. And with each addition of a new feature, there's a learning opportunity for green materials.

Check out the upper left corner, there - as a player clicks on an item, more information about that material, item, or related information is linked. So when kids add plants, they learn more about gardening and how important it is to have plants in indoor spaces. Or when they add a sink, they learn more about water conservation.

The possibilities for creating a zany room of their own is practically limitless, and so are the opportunities for learning about how everything around us, down to the rugs on the floor, have an eco-impact.

But this room is just the introduction to an entire online world.

Click through on the banner under the widget and you'll be escorted to Circle1Network's virtual world for green kids. Players can create an avatar, and build their own house, which in linked up with a carbon footprint calculator. As kids add things to their house, they can see their carbon footprint, such as the impact of leaving their virtual TV on all night, or how solar panels help offset carbon.

They can also join up with groups of other online gamers, and create teams. They then go on adventures dealing with global warming events, such as floods and droughts, and work to save endangered animals. Through this hands on experience, kids learn about just what issues we face in climate change. All in a safe online environment.

Kids help bring the whole family into the climate change education loop

By playing the games and enjoying an online world, kids bring in siblings, parents, and other family members into the feedback loop, helping to inspire and educate. As Sally Schmidt of Circle1Networks puts it, "Kids can help the whole family understand how easy it is to go green by trying things out in the virtual eco-world on KidsCom.com and talking to their parents about how to make changes in the real world."

Online gaming then finds real world impact that can literally help save the planet.

Circle1Network is a great company creating games that not only teach kids about important information, but also provide opportunities for parents and kids to bond. And of course we think green issues are vital for kids and parents to chat about. Both adults and children can learn a lot from each other, and the more exposure kids have to green issues while young, the more likely they'll be environmental advocates later on.
