There are a lot of powerful stain removers out there, though they aren't exactly eco-friendly. From the chemicals they're comprised of to the plastic packaging they use, stain removers leave a lot of room for improvement.

Our great grandmothers never seemed to have stains in their clothes, and they didn't have modern-day chemicals. So how did they get those pesky smudges out? Here are two natural stain remover recipes, plus a bonus tip, that will keep your clothes sparkling clean in a green way.

Recipe 1
2 parts hot water
1 part baking soda
1 part hydrogen peroxide

Spot treat stains and soak overnight. Mix only as much as you need for immediate use because it won't store well over long periods of time.

Recipe 2
2 quarts water
1/2 cup ammonia
2 TBS laundry detergent

As with the first recipe, you'll spot treat stains and soak overnight. But for this recipe, you can mix a large amount and store in reusable spray bottles. However, don't mix this stain remover with bleach, as ammonia and bleach cause a dangerous chemical reaction.

Bonus Tip
Vinegar is your best friend for laundry. It keeps fabrics soft, removes stains, keeps colors bright.it is an all-around great sidekick. Never underestimate the uses for this household staple. Check out the ways to use vinegar for removing stains.
