This is part of a series of video blog posts about green architecture and construction leading up to Greenbuild, the U.S. Green Building Council's annual conference. Planet Green is a Silver sponsor of this year's event, which will be held in Boston November 19-21.
For the framing, we used FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) wood throughout the house, and it's marked as such so we know it comes from forests that use highly sustainable practices. We also used FSC plywood in the attic for storage areas up above.
Instead of using paper shimming as is normally done, we used FSC wood recycled from a demo that we did, and we used some that same wood to frame in the members, because they were a different size than the normal wood we get these days. Both worked great, and it saves us from having to throw out perfectly good wood.
We've been doing green building for a period of time Canyon Construction, and we were thrilled to be able to help David with his house and be involved in this project. Green building is a great thing!
