David Gottfried's Home Renovation: Success Is Based on Teamwork (Video)

In the second installation of this video blog series on green building and design, David Gottfried explains how integrated teams deliver a holistic design.

Fri Nov 14 15:50:00 EST 2008

This is part of a series of video blog posts about green architecture and construction leading up to Greenbuild, the U.S. Green Building Council's annual conference. Planet Green is a Silver sponsor of this year's event, which will be held in Boston November 19-21.

The essence of green building is team and assembling very early an integrated and proactive team. And we have been very lucky to assemble a great team of green craftsmen.

Raul from Canyon Construction is our green foreman, Nick and Carson our carpenters, and Jeremy, our project manager from Canyon. We also have our architects, Dan Smith, Nick Buehrens, David Thorn and Hilary Curtis, our Landscape architects, and my wife, Sara, as the lead interior designer. Everyone has worked together from the beginning of the project not only to set the our green goals, but to creatively brainstorm how we can make this a LEED Platinum home that's not only aesthetic, but also that we can afford. Working together as a creative team on every element we did was the best way. It's not only the green building experts and consultants who have the ideas, but the guys in the field, including the subcontractors who can tell you what works and what doesn't work. Without working together in a very collaborative fashion from the beginning, we'd never achieved the results that you'll see here.

David Gottfried started Regenerative Ventures and its consulting arm, WorldBuild in 1995, after founding the U.S. Green Building Council in 1993. He is the author of Greed to Green, and is internationally acknowledged as one of the foremost founders of the global green building movement.
