When Margaret Renzullo wanted to green her house on Greenovate, she called in her friend and green interior designer, Kristina Spencer. Kristina's reaction upon taking a good look at Margaret's bathroom was involuntary. "Oh my god," she bellowed.
Renovating a bathroom with an environmental bent, of course, includes the omnipresent toilet bowl. You can opt for low flow or perhaps something more alternative - and don't forget the toilet seat. The result will not only be eco-friendly, but it will likely be wallet-friendly, too.
Speaking of your wallet, it is certainly possible to go bathroom green without incurring the cost of renovation. Jenn at Tiny Choices suggests that you:
- Spray the shower with a natural mold-fighting solution after each use. Chemicals and bleaches aren't good for your skin or the environment.
- Clean mirrors with vinegar and water instead of harsh cleaning solutions. Same idea behind the shower spray but will result in a sparkling mirror that will make you scream in delight.
- Switch to recycled toilet paper. Not recycled as in "use each piece twice" but as in the type of toilet paper that doesn't directly result in a tree being killed for the sole purposes of wiping your bum. And that's the bottom line.
