If you watch cats lay around all day, it's hard to imagine anything in their lives that could be harmful for the environment. But, in fact, one small part of a house cat's life is highly resource intensive. By no fault of their own, cats are provided with litter made from a non-biodegradable material that requires strip mining to acquire.

Sodium-bentonite makes cat litter absorbent, but its impact on the environment is severe. And it is no small problem. Americans go through two million tons of sodium-bentonite every year.

So what can a green-minded cat owner do? Watch this online video from Stuff Happens to find out.

And don't miss Stuff Happens Episode: Pets.
