Discussions with my editor from my paperless home office

Over in TreeHugger, there is a discussion about how homes are going paperless more quickly than offices. Many have tried to reduce their paper use at home in different ways, including getting and paying bills online, but as the old joke says, "The paperless office will become a reality about the same time as the paperless toilet." If you work at home full time, Mike Gunderloy at Web Worker Daily has some good tips. A couple that stand out:

1. Scan and shred: New industrial strength scanners can turn any paper into a searchable PDF.

2. More monitors=less paper: According to Gunderloy,

Multiple monitors improve productivity, but if you have sufficient screen real estate, they can cut down on your paper use as well. Instead of printing out reference documents or design sketches to refer to while you concentrate on part of a complex project, you can spread them out over your virtual desktop. With enough screen space, there's no need to use paper for temporary copies of things.
