This is the first in a series of tips from the book Go Green, Live Rich, by David Bach, which shows how reducing your footprint can increase your wealth. Read a review of the book on TreeHugger, where Bach is also a guest contributor.
Do you go to the gym? David Bach points out that there is a great outdoors without an annual membership, that you have paid already for the roads and the parks that can be used for free.
"Hiking, brisk walking and swimming are all activities that require a minimal investment in gear, keep you fit, and get you outside appreciating and reconnecting with nature. Doing these things from your front door saves fuel and greenhouse emissions. Another plus: With the average cost of a gym membership running about $ 50 per month, you can save $600 per year.
Bach also notes that there are 700 million acres of public land that can be enjoyed, and that it is important to get our kids involved with it. Over at TreeHugger, we have noted that fewer people are camping, and that kids today prefer to play inside "'cause that's where all the electrical outlets are." So go play outside.
