We all think about downsizing when the kids leave the house and we no longer need all the space in our family homes. But what about downsizing for Mother Earth? Downsizing your life isn't just easier on the planet; it's easier on your wallet. Why not think about steps that you can take to downsize your life?
- Instead of that huge house in the burbs, why not think about moving into a smaller house closer to where you work? It's shocking how much your quality of life increases when you're not spending two hours a day in your car. Think of what you could do with all that extra time? Maybe each child doesn't need their own room. Maybe that huge backyard isn't really worth it because your lengthy commute cuts into your free time anyway.
- And when you do move closer to the city, it's a great time to give up that extra car and carpool, take public transportation, or bike to work. Parking in the city can be really tough with that huge car, so trade your SUV in for something a little more compact.
- Downsizing your life also means downsizing your closet space. Get rid of all your old duds and pass them on to someone that needs them more than you. This time, enjoy that empty space and don't refill your closet with unnecessary new clothing. Free your closet of excess clutter and free your mind as well.
