When I did weather stripping on the doors in my house, it helped to reduce the draft.
Yet, every time we still felt a breeze and I knew it was making the HVAC work harder. The air flow from the bottom of the door was still a problem.
Now that I am getting door sweeps for myself, I will be saving a lot of money on my energy bills and won’t have that nasty draft.
How do you weatherize the bottom of the door?
Door bottoms (usually made in aluminum or wood) attach to the bottom of a door and can be adjusted to lightly graze the existing threshold as the door closes.
Are There Options To Buy?
Companies have developed plenty of energy efficient and durable solutions to the threshold.Durable Door Sweeps are Important.
Since the bottom of a door gets a lot of wear and tear against the floor, good weather stripping is key for the door sweep/adjustable threshold.
Aren’t They Hard To Install?
Yeah, I know, some of these door sweeps are hard to install.
They may require:
- removing the door or
- Cutting off part of the bottom of the door.
Then there are others that are easy to install and don’t last long. Door sweeps attach to the inside of the door near the bottom edge—the door does not have to be removed—and consist of a brush or pad that contacts the edge of the threshold as the door shuts.
Spring Loaded Door Sweeps Save Energy
Some door sweeps have a spring-loaded mechanism to open and close with the door. That allows the sweep to snap the material down when the door closes and retract when it opens.
Safety First
Just be careful when installing. Also, when you need to, get someone to help you install the door sweeps in your home.
