Necessity really is the mother of invention. Take a look at things around you, and see how clever you can be at repurposing them. Here are five items that began their lives in very different ways. Creative reuse can be fun, not to mention eco-friendly.

1. Utensil Storage
No one would ever guess these utensil caddies used to be plastic boxes designed for storing Beanie Babies! They were primed and painted, wrapped with a little fabric around the rims, and finished off with some twine.

2. "Leather" Cover
You've got to see it to believe it: a leather look made from eggshells! A full tutorial shows how you can achieve this amazing effect.

3. Spool Caddy
Once a cassette tape holder, this wooden box now serves as a great spool organizer for the sewing room. It's not only functional, it's decorative as well.

4. Desk Accessory
Keep your supplies close at hand. This colorful pen and supply holder is made from old dried out markers, held together with a woven ribbon.

5. Lamp
With a little imagination, almost anything can be made into a lamp. Here's a great looking lamp made with an empty Jack Daniel's bottle. Perfect for your den!
