More than a few of us probably received a gift basket or two this year.  We ate the plastic-wrapped hams, cheeses and candy and tried to recycle the trash from the basket as best we could. All that’s left is the basket that the gifts once lived in. How to get rid of it in an eco-friendly manner?

These are modern times. You don’t really have much need for a basket. You’ve converted one old basket into a sewing kit and another one sits in the garage collecting unused screws and nails. Here’s an idea for using your newest basket.

What You’ll Need:
A Basket
Some Dirt
A Plastic Bag or Old Cloth
Seeds
A Knife

Step 1
Take the basket and put the cloth or an old plastic bag on the bottom. If you are using a plastic bag, poke a few small holes in the plastic.

Step 2

Fill the basket with soil. Use some of that compost that you’ve been making under the sink.

Step 3

Plant seeds.

It’s just that easy. Make sure to water it everyday, and you’ll be spicing up your meal times with homegrown herbs.
