Stuff that makes it easy being green
1. Tap into clean water. Water purifiers are great options for cleaning up the tap. Berkefeld gravity filters sit on the counter top, while Gaiam's version plugs directly into a house's plumbing.

2. Keep things contained. Pyrex's reusable food storage containers not only offer a safe, non-toxic alternative to plastic, they also help cut down on use of disposable wrappings. 3. Get cooking. Lodge makes great classic American cast-iron cookware. But for those who just can't do without the modern non-stick stuff, GreenPan offers pots and pans made without the harmful chemicals. When it comes to clean up, Sara Snow has it covered. Check out her tips for greening your dishwasher below.

Did you know?
- In a study conducted by the Consumers Union, 90 percent of conventionally grown apples, peaches, pears, strawberries and celery tested positive for pesticide residues.

- Despite it's crystalline appeal, bottled water is held only to standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Tap water, on the other hand, is regulated by the more stringent regulations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

- A study by Consumer Reports showed that store-bought cheeses wrapped in PVC plastic film contained high levels of DEHA, a toxin linked to reproductive problems, birth defects, and liver tumors in mice.
