Stuff that makes it easy being green
1. Go manic for organic. Plush organic sheets from Loop offer pesticide-free luxury (they even offer matching towels for the bathroom), while Australian company EcoLinen offers sheets, pillows and duvet covers that also use the latest in non-toxic dyes and colorings. Sara Snow explains more reasons why organics make bedtime all the dreamier.
2. Make your bed green. Pacific Rim beds are manufactured from maple grown in managed forests in Washington and Oregon, and then hand rubbed with their own tung oil and beeswax. Top it off with an organic mattress from a manufacturer such as Abaca or Shepherd's Dream, which use natural latex, wool, and organic cotton to create that plush feeling of rest and relaxation. 3. Cast a glow. Bluewick candles are made from soy-based wax, which burns cleaner than petroleum-based waxes, emits less soot and contains no known carcinogens. Luxe's beeswax candles are also similarly clean burning, and contain essential oils distilled from organically grown flowers, plants, and herbs.
Did you know?
- Mothballs may seem to be a useful tool for bedroom closets, but their vapors can have serious short-term toxic effects, and are known to cause cancer in animals. Cedar trunks and chips are a good substitute.
- Adding storm panels makes your windows 50 percent more energy efficient.
- Pollutant levels can often be ten-times higher inside the home than they are outside.
