Cut the Clutter | Junk Mail | Paper

If the above scene looks familiar to you at the end of each month, consider cutting paper and stamps out of the equation altogether and paying your bills online. You'll save the cost of a stamp and the worry of whether or not the payment will arrive on time, and it's easy to do: almost all banks and service providers (like your cell-phone provider) offer the option these days; About.com has a nice overview of getting this done.

Once you start paying your bills online, most banks and many service providers offer the option to stop sending you paper bills as well; if you're going to pay them online, you might as well cut the clutter and go with electronic bills and emailed reminders, right? As with cutting down on junk mail, cutting back on paper bills cuts back on clutter, and, perhaps most importantly, paper required to print your bills. You can do this with bank statements, credit cards, student loans-just about anything that you regularly receive in the mail (and sent back with a check) can be done electronically. And with slick software like GreenPrint, you can organize your electronic bills, create PDFs of your receipts, and even print (after cutting out unnecessary pages) the ones you really need hardcopies of.

Altogether, the combination of online bill pay and electronic statements and receipts can stand to save you cash-maybe not a ton, but there's no reason to use stamps when the online version is free-save you time, and save thousands of pages of paper.
