After a recent trip to Western Germany where beautiful castles decorate the landscape, part of me transitioned back into a princess and castle-loving little girl. When I found a map in my backpack upon arriving home, I decided to make a castle-shaped bookmark out of it. Whether you love castles yourself or some little princess in your life does, it's easy to make a castle-shaped bookmark from maps and all other sorts of scrap paper rather than throwing that paper away. Of course your design of a castle doesn't have to be the same as mine. In fact, I bet you can come up with something even better.

How to make a castle bookmark from scrap paper:

1. Locate your scrap paper

I used an old map. Fold it over three or four times so you have a thick rectangular piece of paper. Use eco-friendly glue to seal the layers together. Cut the top of the rectangle into a triangle.

2. Cut out doors, windows, and other details to the castle tower as you see fit.

You might even want to add a dragon or a princess. Go crazy.

3. Insert into book or give to a child that loves to read and will enjoy it.

This project is a great way to reuse paper that you would have otherwise thrown out or sent to the recycling company (which would still require energy to process!). With a little creativity, you can turn a piece of scrap paper into something magical that would be a perfect gift for a youngster in your life.
