Bottled water is one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on mankind, and there are a world of reasons to ditch it for good. Manufacturing the stuff consumes oil and resources, delivering it causes unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions, and oh yeah, there's the fact that it costs a buck a pop when tap water is perfectly good here in the US. I've said before we should never drink bottled water again. However, there is one bottle of water worth buying. But it costs 20 dollars.

Yes, the only good bottle of water is a $20 bottle of water. PlanetSave alerted me to an intriguingly overpriced bottle of water—and I had to conclude, after much painstaking deliberation, that I could support the buying of this one.

The pricy bottle of water is the product of Charity: Water, an organization that has two aims: 1) promote social consciousness of water related issues and 2) fund well drilling in Africa to give people access to a safe, clean water supply.

Putting a $20 bottle of water (which can be sent to friends and family as a great thought-provoking gift) to your lips highlights the absurdity of our practice—we could be drinking this for free, but choose, inexplicably, to pay for it instead. Meanwhile, 1 in 6 people worldwide don't even have access to safe drinking water, period. And that's where aim #2 kicks in: while you're pondering the errors of our capitalistic, frivolous bottled water guzzling ways, the money you've spent on the bottled water is being used towards well drilling projects in Africa. One hundred percent of the money you spent on the bottle (apart from the 30 cents or so it costs for the bottle) goes to the project.

Of course, you can always simply donate to Charity: Water and skip the bottle of water altogether. But it's a good way to make folks think. And that's how I've come to conclude that this bottled water is the one exception to my all-bottle-water-is-the-scum-of-the-earth rule.

And it's an innovative, forward thinking org to boot: Charity: Water also just had a fundraiser on Twitter called (Twestival). This nonprofit has already made great strides, and is one to watch for further future greatness.

Buy a 20 dollar bottle of water and support a great cause at Charity: Water's website.
