Decorate Your Digs Like Danny Seo

Ask me to trace my hand for a Thanksgiving turkey and I'm fine. Ask me to reupholster a kitchen stool and I start to shake in my vegan boots. But I was desperate. The last of winter's doldrums dragged down my garden-level apartment leaving it ordinary and uninspired.

Thankfully, Body + Soul's April issue arrived in my mailbox like a breath of fresh spring air. Among several of its practical articles, one features Danny Seo and his 25 green home decorating ideas for under $25. The craft-tastic master's mini-projects proved not only to be cheap, but also doable for those as DIY-challenged as myself. If your abode could also stand a Spring-like energy boost, here are a few of Seo's easy tips:1. Summer-y centerpiece: Group together a variety of glass jars (Think: jelly jars, perfume bottles, etc.) that you've collected or purchased at a thrift store. Pack them closely together on a tray. Randomly sprinkle the containers with Queen Anne's lace, leaves, or flowers of your choice.

2. Wine-inspired trivet: If you've been collecting your vino corks, unsure of what to do with them, put them to use by protecting your dining table from hot pots and pans. Once you have about 50 similarly sized corks, stand them upright and arrange them into a circle. Then surround the corks with an 8- to 10-inch metal hose clamp, found in the plumbing section of your local hardware store. Tighten, bind and trim!

3. Cool weather quilt: Instead of letting your old winter scarves collect dust, turn them into a blanket. Line up six or seven that compliment each other in color and texture. Trim them so they match up in length, and then sew them together. If you tend to get chilly quick, sew on some fabric backing in a similar shade.
