When my children were small, our house was Kid Central. We did a lot of crafts, and every year, making decorations for the tree was a big hit. As my kids and their friends got older, the decorations became a little more sophisticated, but the charm of the things they made as 4- and 5-year-olds still holds. We still use them all and we laugh as we hang the decorations made of construction paper and wool.

We don't make decorations now, but we have a lot of memories attached to those little baubles. So even though it's a hectic time of year, carve out a bit of time to make some dough ornaments with your kids.Baked Dough for Christmas Ornaments

Flour
Salt
Vegetable oil
Water
Acrylic paint

1. Mix together 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tbsp vegetable oil.

2. Slowly add 3/4 to 1 cup of water and stir until you get a nice clay consistency.

3. Once completely mixed, make into the desired shapes for different Christmas themes. You can mold shapes, or roll the dough out and use Christmas cookie cutters to shape. Don't forget to poke a hole for the hanger.

4. Bake your Christmas ornaments in a 250°F oven for approximately 1 hour. This will vary depending on how thick you creations are. Paint your finished ornaments.

Tip: Do not make the Christmas ornaments too thick or they will crack with baking.

Warning: Kids should to have an adult to supervise when using an oven.

Difficulty level: Easy
