Bathing suit season seems to come all too soon to those with an extra layer of winter cushioning. It's time to get back into shape and if that means hitting the gym for you make sure that your workout bag is filled with green goodies.

  • Ladies—invest in a greener sports bra.
According to Green Daily, Champion's Vapor Sports Bra is made from coconut shells. Truly, it's a material called Cocona polyester, which is not only eco-friendly but also helps to control the stink and wicks away sweat to keep you dry.

  • Buy eco-friendly tennis shoes and recycle your old ones.
Shop Planet Shoes for all the best in green tennis shoes. Read Colin Dunn's guide to recycling your old sneakers.

  • Shop green athletic retailers.
Look for companies with sustainable business practices, like Patagonia, REI, and Nau, and hit the Planet Green Shop when it's time to gear up.
  • Bring green snacks.
Make your own granola bars. Try Kelly Rossiter's Oatmeal Raisin Granola Bars. If you make your own you can control the sugar and use unprocessed sugars like brown rice syrup and honey. Mix up the ingredients and add your favorite nuts and dried fruits. If you don’t have time to make them buy the good stuff like ThinkOrganic and Barbara's Bakery. When you're reading the label look for the nutritional assassins like high fructose corn syrup which is linked the obesity epidemic in this country as well as a host of other health issues.

  • Wear natural deodorant.
Traditional deodorants often have aluminum chlorohydrate. Although it's the least irritating of the aluminum salts, it can still result in allergic reactions. What's worse, it also happens to be a neurotoxin that alters the function of the blood-brain barrier, linking it to Alzheimer's disease and cancer. It's always best to buy aluminum-free deodorants that don't contain this killer.
