You're thinking about biking or walking to work to cut back on crazy gas prices and carbon emissions: great idea! The only thing standing in your way? The sweat box you'll be upon arrival!
Unlike a Hollywood-version super CEO, most of you don’t have a private bathroom with shower in your office (let alone your cubicle). What to do? Follow these steps to make it happen:
- Bring a change of shirt: Fold it neatly in a piece of tissue so it doesn’t wrinkle and put it in a (solar-paneled) backpack.
- Leave shoes at work: This will cut down on weight that you’ll have to carry on bike or foot.
- Buy all-natural body wipes: Invest in ones that are made for adults – not babies’ butts. Try athlete-favorite Action Wipes. They are made with biodegradable formulations, no parabens or sodium lauryl sulfates, no animal testing…and they’re extra big and even reusable. Plus they’re scented with calming essential oils like tea tree and eucalyptus.
- Make your own wipe: Pack a very lightly pre-soaped wash cloth (too much soap makes it harder to rinse off) in a plastic baggie (which you can reuse every day) and wash up when you get to work. Squeeze fresh lemon into the cloth to add freshness. Thanks to Beth Yurich for this great tip!
- Treat yourself: If you make your own, try organic cotton washcloths. You deserve it. If you’re biking, make sure to wear a helmet…this last tip isn’t green, it’s just plain old common sense! This post was inspired by episode 7 of G-Word.
