The United States--and most of the developed world in general--has some of the finest water in the world running through its taps. To help see where yours ranks, the Environmental Working Group has created the National Tap Water Database, which looks at more than 22 million water quality tests and organizes the results such that you can search by city, state, or by contaminant, to see what's in your water and what health issues are related to each substance.

Taste tests (including one by TreeHuggers founder Graham Hill, in New York City) routinely show that tap water tastes better than bottled water; so, once you get your score, and if your water leaves something to be desired straight from the tap, there are some things you can do. Installing a filter in your kitchen is a quick 'n easy fix and gives you a ticket to delicious, all you can drink water.

No matter which avenue you choose, drinking from the tap is the greenest way to go when it comes to water; in light of all the recent news surrounding polycarbonate plastic and Bisphenol A, we recommend that you use glass or choose a health-friendly water bottle for drinking water on the go.

Difficulty level: Easy
