It is usually the aged who need hearing aids. Although quite a few younger people will surely lose their hearing from blasting Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch all day on their iPods, it is the elderly who most often suffer from the affliction. The elderly, being old, are also the most likely to shuffle off the mortal coil, and they will inevitably leave behind their old hearing aids. (The elderly have it rough, but we all have it rough soon enough.) What can you do with hearing aids that you don't need? It seems like such a waste to chuck them in the garbage.

You Can't Sell Them
It is illegal to sell hearing aids in some places. How weird is that? There are tons of whacky laws involving hearing aids. In Maryland, it is illegal for a person to come to your house selling hearing aids without an appointment! Most dealers have to be licensed. Unless you just happen to be a licensed hearing aid salesperson, you shouldn't even consider selling them.

You Can Donate Them
I think George Carlin had a joke about giving away something that it was illegal to sell, but I don't think he was talking about hearing aids. There are a host of organizations that will take old hearing aids off your hands. The Lion's Club, The Knights of Columbus and Hear Now to name a few. They will most likely refurbish the aid and get it to someone in need.

If the hearing aid is worth a considerable amount, make sure to get a receipt from the charity. You can write the donation off on your taxes.
