An eight-week regimen of yoga is not only safe for patients with chronic heart failure, but it can also reduce signs of inflammation often linked with death, according to a study released this week.
Chronic heart failure occurs when the heart can no longer pump blood efficiently to other organs in the body, resulting in long-term health problems and even death, despite the widespread use of drug treatments and device therapies.
But researchers at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, who measured the effects of an eight-week yoga regimen on 19 heart-failure patients, found a 26 percent decrease in symptoms in patients who did yoga, compared with a 3 percent decrease in patients on medical therapy alone-more than enough of a reason, we think, to get your Om on. ::Reuters
