I'm very excited this weekend. We have a bit of a weather blip and the temperature is soaring, and then we are expected to go back down to seasonal temperatures on Monday. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the warmth and make a cocktail and enjoy it in the sunshine, and maybe invite some friends over.
I'm usually a martini kind of a girl. I believe I have mentioned in the past that my freezer holds a bottle of gin and martini glasses and nothing else. My daughter, on the other hand, likes an occasional cocktail. She made this drink for me one hot summer afternoon and I was sold. She followed the recipe and made it with the ginger beer, but she makes it with ginger ale for herself, finding the ginger beer a bit strong.
As luck would have it, we were at the farmers' market yesterday and purchased some homemade ginger beer from one of the vendors. It was, in fact, too strong to just drink it, and then I remembered this recipe. Get yourself some organic gin if you can, and now you have a use for that mint you've been growing on your window sill.
Gin Gin Mule
¼ oz. lime juice
5 mint leaves
1 ½ oz organic gin
4 oz ginger beer (or ginger ale)
Method
- To a tall glass, add lime juice and mint leaves. Mash or muddle with a bar spoon. Fill the glass with ice and add gin and top with ginger beer.
