Make a Gift Basket for Someone You Love

My husband has a great philosophy of life. Whenever he is asked what he wants for his birthday or Hanukkah or Christmas he invariably replies "I want for nothing." This is an excellent way to live your life, but it drives my mother to distraction at this time of the year. Her solution? She makes him a food basket every year. Now that our children have their own apartments, she does one for them too.

Don't go out and buy one of those premade baskets. They cost a lot of money and they're all the same. My mother gets a big kick out of choosing what goes into the baskets, and each one is different. The care that you put into the basket is what makes it special for the recipient.Do it the Planet Green way and start with a canvas bag that can be reused. Fill it up with some of the homemade goodies that I've been writing about (there are more to come). If you don't want to cook, then search out jams and cookie treats that are made with organic ingredients. Toss in some fair-trade chocolate and fair-trade coffee beans, or maybe add some kitchen things like organic tea towels. Tuck in a little card with an invitation for dinner-the possibilities are endless.

It's a gift to make everyone happy. Your loved one gets tasty treats, you aren't adding any stuff to their home, and you didn't use any wrapping paper that gets instantly thrown away.
