Whether it's for a small dinner party or an enormous sit down affair, event menus will add extra glam to your special event. But don't pay an eco-price by wasting all that extra paper and using chemically based ink on your menus. Chef Ann Gentry owner of Real Food Daily prints all of her restaurants' menus on hemp paper with soy ink.
- Printing on hemp paper. This non-wood material is an excellent way to help curb deforestation. Hemp paper has been used for centuries and is an excellent alternative to everyday paper because it's actually stronger and lasts longer. Many older documents are still in existence because they were printed on this sturdy material.
- Using soy ink. Recently, the use of soy ink in the U.S. has grown dramatically so why not be a part of the trend? Traditional ink is petroleum-based and made using tons of fossil fuels while soy ink is produced from soybeans. Additionally, it's much easier to recycle paper that was printed with soy ink. The ink washes away more easily than its petroleum counterpart making the recycled products brighter and clearer.
