While medical and exercise experts clash over whether exercise is the best remedy for a hangover, after all that green beer last night, why not stick to the theme and give your workout a bright shade of emerald, as well? Hint: We're not talking face paint.
Here are a few tips from MSNBC's Fit List on how to get your sweat on, while stepping lightly on the planet:
1. Get outta here: Electrically powered exercise machines require a lot of juice to operate. Consider using your own muscle power and taking your workout into the great outdoors, instead. The fitness gurus at MSNBC recommend stopping along the way to strength train by using your body weight for resistance with lunges, squats, push-ups, pull-ups, dips, and step-ups.
2. Unplug at home: If outdoor exercise isn't an option, you can still create a home gym using equipment that requires you to generate the power yourself, such as dumbbells, tubing, jump ropes, and self-powered spinning bikes and rowing machines.
3. Dress for success: For workout clothes and accessories, give sustainable fibers such as organic cotton and bamboo a spin. You can even find sneakers with significant recycled content these days, yoga bags made out of hemp...you get the idea. When you've worn out your old clothes, recycle them.
