We all know that exercise is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle, but as we saw on the G Word recently, not all exercise is eco-friendly. Consuming tons of power with your treadmill or using bicycles that COULD have been constructed out of materials that are more green are not the best exercise choices when it comes down to our planet. If you're concerned about how to exercise and NOT cause any additional harm to the environment, keep some of these things in mind:
- THE OUTDOORS. The outdoors always have been, and will continue to be, a rich and solid resource for physical activity. From swimming and rock climbing to hiking and playing sports, vowing to spend more time outside will likely cause you to spend more time exercising in a green way, as well.
- TOWELS. What's so wrong about washing your work out towel a little less often? Lets face it, most of us get in the shower after sweating regardless of whether or not we were wiping off with a fresh towel or not. Wash less and conserve energy. This goes for clothes, too!
- WATER BOTTLES. Don't buy a new bottle of water every time you work out. Instead, just refill one. There's no sense in wasting all of that plastic if you can just use one bottle.
- BATTERIES. If you use a portable music device while working out that requires batteries, make sure you can use rechargeable batteries. Regular batteries are dangerous for the environment and cost you more in the long run, anyway.
- SWEAT A LITTLE. Turn off that AC in the summer and have yourself a hot yoga session right in your living room. We don't all have to always be a perfect 72 degrees. Turning off the AC even here and there can help to do wonders for the environment.
