You certainly do not have to be Irish to enjoy the greenest holiday of them all. Well, maybe dying rivers and your beer a synthetic emerald color isn't quite the greenest thing ever, so this year make a few changes in your celebration and make a huge difference. Instead of braving the beer tipsy crowds, why not make an Irish feast at home? You won't have to depend on finding gold at the end of the rainbow if you save some on the meal. Try these traditional Irish favorites greened up a notch:
- Make Kelly Rossiter's Irish Soda Bread. Soda bread is the traditional bread of Ireland; it uses soda as the leavening agent rather than yeast so it rises in the oven during baking.
Cost: $9.00 - Make my corned beef and cabbage. I'm Irish and so is my husband but I have to admit that I had never made this until I learned that I could make it in a slow cooker. Celebrate this fabulously green hued day with a greener take on an ol' Irish favorite.
Cost: $50.50 - You have to leave room in the budget and in your stomach for some big delicious beers on this traditionally beer happy holiday.
