Mother's Day is a great opportunity to show mom how much that she means to you but it’s been my experience that the way to do that isn't by breaking the bank at an expensive restaurant or by buying her pricey gifts. The way to truly show mom that you appreciate and love her is by planning an extra special feast. And with this guide you can cook at home, feed the entire family, and still have some dough leftover to buy mom a little present if you like.

You want to pick foods that you know your mom loves but that the rest of the family will also enjoy.

Make Emeril's Fish In A Foil Pouch

Fancy restaurants often make fish in parchment dishes because of the extra special presentation, but the truth is, you can make them at home. Another great thing about this technique is that you can absolutely vary it with what's available. Throw in whatever white fish you like and choose veggies that are seasonal and currently less expensive.

Cost: About $52.00

Make my Parmesan Polenta

You'll need a saltier starch to go along with your super healthy fish and veggies and polenta is the perfect choice. Polenta is often seen at elegant restaurants, but the truth is that it has long been known as the poor man's food. Additionally, the parmesan in the recipe adds a creamy yet salty flavor that goes well with the entire meal.

Cost: About $10.00

Make Organic Carrot Cake with Fair-Trade Coffee

For dessert show mom that you really put some thought into it by pairing an organic carrot cake with a fair trade Kenyan coffee.

Kangocho is a high altitude, small farmer cooperative coffee processing center in the Nyeri district of Kenya. The aroma of this coffee is sweet-toned with notes of cedar. You'll notice a sumptuous mouth feel and crisp, dry acidity, melded with the classic Kenyan flavors of blackberry and black currant that meld perfectly with this recipe for organic carrot cake.

Cost: About $37.00

Total: 99.00
