One of the best things about making falafel is that it's great for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike because of its hearty nature. On the Sure-Fired Falafel episode of Emeril Green, Emeril shows Adam how to make a no-fail falafel.
Starting off with garbanzo beans, Emeril tells Adam that it's better to buy dried beans in bulk using reusable containers. This reduces wasted packaging which normally ends up in our landfills. Other crucial falafel ingredients include red onions, garlic, cilantro, and preserved lemons. Preserved lemons are lemons packed in olive oil and salt for about 30 days. The process gives them a less bitter, pungent flavor. Next they choose organic tahini, grapeseed oil, sesame oil, cardomen, cumin, and coriander. Grapeseed oil is made from the seeds of wine grapes and is loaded with antioxidants. It makes for a truly healthy recipe.
Check out these tips for making no-fail falafel:
- Use high quality organic ingredients such as organic grapeseed oil and organic sesame oil instead of cheap mass produced oils.
- Make sure that the temperature of the oil is correct in order to keep the patties together.
- Soak the dried garbanzo beans for 4 to 8 hours in order to soften them.
