Ingredients:
1 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 red onion, sliced
3 inch piece of ginger, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons Chinese Five Spice Powder
1-2 pound grass-fed hanger steak

Method:

In a non-reactive baking dish, combine soy sauce, onion, ginger, sesame oil and Five Spice powder. Add the hanger steak to marinade and toss to coat. Let marinate for 30 minutes or up to over night.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Heat grill pan in oven for 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven. Transfer hangar steak to grill pan. Pour marinade over steak and return grill pan back to oven. Oven-grill for 7 to 12 minutes for medium rare.

Remove steak from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before carving.

To Serve: Thinly slice across the grain for maximum tenderness. Serve with the onions and juices from the pan.

Yield: 2-4 servings

Editor's Note: Despite the water required to raise beef and the emissions cows produce, sometimes you want a steak. Learn why grass fed is the way to go and why to eat less meat.
