Design a Sustainable Gingerbread House

Thanks to our sister site TreeHugger, we see that sustainably designed gingerbread houses are all the rage these days. Just in time for the holidays, Bake for a Change is hosting a special gingerbread-house design contest that "combines eco and spice and everything nice."

The challenge: Apply sustainable building practices to a gingerbread house. It's up to you whether you go for (chocolate) solar panels on the roof or (candy cane) wind turbines in the yard, as long as you follow their basic ground rules, including must-haves such as four walls, a roof, and at least two windows.

Not a sustainability expert? No problem! What better way to learn a thing or two about how green buildings work than doing a little research-we recommend National Resources Defense Council's green building section or tips from HGTV Pro's green building gurus to get started-in the name of gingerbread and candy. Plus, you get to eat the results! Unleash your inner Gehry: Think globally, bake locally. ::Bake for a Change
