The people over at Epicurious are have noted that the Washington Post has reported that the U.S.Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is about to release its report that meat and milk products from cloned cows are safe to use. This, despite the fact that Congress voted last month to delay approval. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will not allow cloned meat to be designated "organic," however, so sticking to certified-organic foods is one way to avoid cloned meat in your diet.

Apparently Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Argentina are poised to approve use of cloned animals, as well, and the FDA doesn't want to be left out of the meat market.

This raises so many questions for the consumer. What proof do we have that the food is truly safe? What kind of labeling will be required? Will the consumer have a choice about the meat they want to buy? Then there are all those thorny ethical issues. Got any opinions on this issue? If so, comment below. ::Epicurious
