If you don't celebrate Christmas, all the hullabaloo can send you out looking for something distinctly un-Christmas like to do with your day. My husband is Jewish and before we were married, he used to spend the day in a movie theater and then go out for Chinese food. However, if you live anywhere in Canada, and in many parts of the States, this might be the view from your window this week. We're expecting much more snow today and tomorrow here in Toronto.
Maybe the thing to do this year is invite a few friends over, rent a movie and make your own Chinese food, rather than going out into the storm. There are plenty of recipes in the Planet Green archives to suit your taste and they are all pretty quick and easy. These are mostly vegetarian recipes, but you can always add a bit of chicken if you like.
If you want something classic, try Vegetarian Kung Pao or Vegetarian Spring Rolls or Hot and Sour Soup. There is Eggplant with Chillies and Spring Onion, Black Bean Tofu or a side dish of Spicy Szechuan Green Beans.
