We've all heard arguments for and against buying organic foods. Sometimes organic vegetables come great distances. Availability is sometimes an issue. Organic foods tend to be more expensive. On the other hand, can you afford to be ingesting pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones?
Here is a handy little list entitled The Dirty Dozen: Top 12 Foods to Eat Organic from The Daily Green. They are suggesting that if you can't buy organic for all of your grocery items, these are the 12 you should concentrate on.
I now buy meat that is certified to have no antibiotics and growth hormones, and I have switched to organic dairy products. I buy as much local produce as I can at farmers' markets and from a local market gardener at our cottage. It gives you the opportunity to speak to the farmer himself and find out what his practices are. Bear in mind that farmers may have green farming practices, but have not gone through the process of achieving the "organic" stamp.
