Beets have to be one of the best living proofs of the old adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. Ugly on the outside, gorgeous on the inside, and chock full of truly amazing health benefits.

Like most fruits and vegetables, beets pack the most punch when you drink them. Juicing is such a fantastic way to extract the most potent health-inducing properties of any plant.

And as it turns out, the juice of the beet may actually reduce high blood pressure so effectively that researchers suggest it could have implications for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. About 25 percent of the world's adult population suffers from high blood pressure.

The beet research, conducted at the London School of Medicine, was based on subjects drinking about two cups, or 500 ml of beet juice per day. Reduction in blood pressure was measurable within one hour of drinking the juice, and peaked within three to four hours after consumption.
