I love it when something new comes along and it hits the market in a bunch of try-able products that might improve my life, my kids' lives, or make the planet healthier. But my ego takes a battering when I don't know what it is, and even more so when i don't even know how to pronounce it! So in case you were wondering too, I checked it out: What is Acai? What makes it so great? And how the heck do you pronounce it?

Well the last shall be the first--It's pronounced AHH-Sigh--EEEE (that sounds excitingly inviting and exotic to me.) Back to the other questions, the acai is a berry that comes only from a particular tree, the Acai Palm,  in the Brazilian Rainforest, and it is delicious. It's got a deep purple color and a potent fruity flavor that's rich and almost smokey. I swear that drinking a glass of acai juice gives me the warm feeling of a good Cabernet, minus the fuzzy side effects.

Maybe that's because Acai is a superfood that has ten to thirty times the amounts of anti-oxidents as red wine. Oprah is a fan, and YouTube is filled with folks talking major positive lifestyle change after imbibing. You can get the high-end MonaVie, and it is delish but very pricey, Sambazon makes a ton of differenet blends are all about Acai (their slogan is get with the purple berry) and mega brand Tropicana, that makes an acai rasberry combo that has my teen choosing it over, well, anything. I'm not one to fall hard for marketing spins, but I gotta tell you, I feel alot better since I started drinking the little purple berry...

Difficulty level: Easy.
