"When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun" is the title of a soon-to-be-released documentary on the Tibet freedom movement. Thom Yorke of Radiohead and Irish musician Damien Rice are lending their music and voices to the film's soundtrack.
The film, directed by Dirk Simon, aims to shed light on the impact on human rights in Tibet since the Chinese invasion of 1950.
The project was about seven years in the making, and offers an inside perspective on the ongoing freedom movement, the director says.
"Many Westerners know more about the cliche of Tibet than the reality faced by Tibetans in and outside of Tibet. And even when it comes to their freedom movement, most people might believe they know what is going on."
What is going on?
"The Tibetan movement today is divided and weakened by an ongoing argument whether the Dalai Lama"s Middle Way Policy is the right strategy or not,," Simon writes at IMDB.
"Tibetans are torn between their religious beliefs and their desire to free their homeland."
The film features Richard Gere, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the 14th Dalai Lama, along with "some of the most prominent Chinese contemporary artists and all the key figures of the exiled Tibetan freedom movement and their followers."
"When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun" is set to premiere sometime in early 2010.
