Reverb just keeps sprouting heads. The Maine nonprofit is now a three-headed monster by our count. That's one head that greens concert venues from soup to nuts. And another head, the Green Music Group, a coalition of artists committed to environmental action. Now comes a Campus Consciousness Tour, which invades campuses in April. It kicks off April 9 at Penn State, with a performance by hip hopper Drake, and April 15 at Northern Illinois University, with a show by rocker Ben Harper and Relentless7.
Fear not, however. This is a good monster, like Puff the Magic Dragon. Or Nessie, on a good day. The tour is actually in its fourth year, but it has a brand spanking new web site. There's also a Facebook page, and they're looking for tour volunteers. That's volunteer as in have fun, do good, and get free tickets and a T-shirt.
The tour will dramatically tip-toe onto campuses with a minimal environmental impact, featuring biodiesel-fueled vehicles, carbon offsets, recycling and composting stations, and organic and local food. Each stop will feature an eco-village of environmental nonprofits and student groups where people can learn about local, national and global issues. And speaking of student groups, the tour site features a toolkit for students who want to organize (and garner funding) at their school.
The tour wraps up on May 8 at Plymouth State University, leaving a trail of awareness in its wake.
Get to clickin'! This is a green monster that can hold its own against the Earth-munching status quo.
