Indonesian Shake-Up
Indonesia is still recovering from Sunday's 7.4 magnitude earthquake which hit 135 miles southeast of Banda Aceh, downing power lines and damaging homes.
Although the tsunami warning that extended across the Pacific to Hawaii, was soon cancelled, local media reports said the quake caused panic in many parts of Aceh—which was hit hard by the earthquake that triggered the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed 230,000 people.
Sitting atop a series of fault lines, Indonesia is one of the world's most earthquake-prone nations.

Venomous Platypus
YaddaYadda submitted a Environmental Graffitti story about 7 Animals You'll Never Believe Are Venomous, like shrews, Pitohuis, Solenodons, and my favorite the Platypus.
That's right the platypus has venomous spurs on it's hind legs that can be lethal to small animals. But not to fear, the spurs are most often used to assert dominance during mating season. The placement seems strange but its yet another weird distinction that can be given to the Platypus.

Volcano interrupts Cannes
The 2010 Cannes film festival officially started today but it's Iceland's volcano not Russell Crowe that's stolen the spotlight. Eyjafjallajokull is already playing havoc with flights to Nice—prompting delays, cancellations and creative travel plans. On the plus side, downsized air travel could make the venerable festival the greenest ever.
