Welcome to the Planet 100 for January 19, 2010. Here's what we're covering today:
Haiti Landslides
After being devastated by earthquake of magnitude 7.0 last Tuesday, scientists expect more threats to the Haitian people in the form of landslides.
The combination of earthquakes and widespread deforestation results in extremely high risk of slope failure of landslides. The once verdant country has been completely deforested, making recovery from environmental disasters—such as last year's hurricanes and last week's earthquake—extremely difficult.

USGBC helps Haiti
The US Green Building Council, best known for its LEED accreditation and annual Greenbuild conference, had announced a commitment to help rebuild Haiti green.
The same organization helped rebuild to Greenburg, Kansas after an F5 tornado destroyed the entire town as well as New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina. The USGBC was part of a UN Special Envoy to Haiti that included former President Bill Clinton last spring.
