Gore Op-Ed
After a tough week on climate change, Al Gore addresses the skeptics an Op Ed in the New York Times over the weekend.
In the editorial, Gore concedes that errors in the IPCC reports and Climategate emails were embarrassing, but that overwhelming consensus on global warming remains unchanged. He tackles the climate deniers' ammunition of heavy snowfalls in Northeast this winter, pointing out that it was the second hottest January in 130 years.
Gore also states that even if climate change was untrue, it doesn't solve our dependence on foreign oil or the fact we're trailing China in renewable energy and cleantech.

Oil Revolt
While Apple shareholders voted 'no' to green, shareholders at Shell and BP are threatening a revolt over the oil giants' tar sands projects.
Institutional investors have co-signed a 'special resolution,' which would force the two companies to fully disclose their involvement in Canadian tar sands. Shell has invested 1/3 of its resources in the Canadian tar sands although is said to scaling down due environmental costs. BP is expanding its investments, having recently purchased 50% of a tar sands project in Alberta.
The Canadian oil sands are the world's second largest oil reserves outside Saudi Arabia, however, the energy needed to extract and process the oil results in three times the GHG emissions of conventional oil.

Organic Pet Sales
When it comes to organics, two recent surveys reveal we're putting our pets before ourselves. While the natural pet food market has more than doubled to $1.5 billion since 2005, organic food and beverage sales for humans declined by 0.3% in 2009. Some cite the recession as a reason to put our pets first.
