Cyclone Tomas
A state of emergency was declared in Fiji yesterday as category 4 Cyclone Tomas battered the northern and eastern islands.
With winds of up to 130 mph at its center, and gusts of up to 175 mph, Cyclone Tomas blasted through the northern Lau and Lomaiviti island groups and the northern coast of Vanua Levu. 14 inches of rain has fallen in just two days, downing power lines and forcing thousands to flee to shelters.
The government has extended its nationwide curfew and troops have been deployed to provide food, water and basic supplies.

Wolverines No More
Michigan may be in a linguistic dilemma—The Wolverine State just lost its only known wild Wolverine.
State officials report that hikers found the 28-pound female over the weekend outside Minden, about 90 miles north of Detroit. Natural causes most likely suspected for its death. This rare wolverine was first spotted back in 2004, the first confirmed sighting in Michigan in 200 years.
The wolverine has reputation of being an extremely strong and ferocious animal, which led to its selection as a mascot for the state and the University of Michigan.

Fair Trade Condoms
This summer will see debut of new condom campaign called Sir Richard's, named after Sir Richard Burton who introduced the Kama Sutra to the west. The company will be offering the first fair-trade condoms in America. For every condom purchased, one is donated to a developing country.
